Welcome to Navy Sloth

Welcome to Navy Sloth — a collection of richly textured, semi-abstract landscapes, seascapes and wildflower paintings inspired by the British countryside and the joyful memories we carry with us.

My work is created to help you pause, take a breath, and reconnect with feelings of happiness, comfort and inner peace. Each painting is a celebration of the joy we find in nature and the heartfelt memories that continue to shape us. Here in Wales, we have a beautiful word—Hiraeth—for the deep emotional connection we feel to people, places and moments that remain close to our hearts.

Alongside original paintings, you’ll also find a carefully curated collection of prints, greeting cards and homeware — little reminders of nature designed to bring warmth, colour and a touch of everyday joy into your home.

Based in Cardiff, Wales, every piece is created with the hope that it becomes more than decoration—something you’ll love to live with, something that quietly reminds you of joy, and perhaps even have a natter about over a cup of tea. I hope each painting becomes a gentle reminder of the people, places and moments that have filled your life with happiness.

Hiya, I’m Jess

Hi, I’m Jess, the artist behind Navy Sloth. I’m also mum to two beautiful little girls. Based in Cardiff, I paint from a small corner of our kitchen that I’ve quietly claimed as my creative space. I love it because I get to create joyful paintings in a place that’s already filled with laughter, family life and happiness.

I hold a degree in Illustration, earned over 20 years ago, and my love of abstract painting blossomed soon after graduating. Artists such as Gerhard Richter, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Monet opened my eyes to the beauty of colour, texture and expression. Since January 2024, I’ve been developing my signature style: richly textured, semi-abstract paintings that combine my illustrative background with bold, expressive mark-making.

Being in nature brings a sense of home, comfort and contentment—the kind of feeling you get when you’re surrounded by the people you love. Family has always been at the heart of my life, especially now with my own precious little ones. My paintings are inspired by the beauty of the British countryside and the joyful memories it leaves behind, with the hope that they help others reconnect with moments of happiness, peace and belonging.

Alongside my art background, I also hold a degree in Environmental Management and a Master’s in Environmental Design of Buildings. Caring for the environment has always been important to me, and I believe that choosing thoughtfully made, lasting pieces—whether an original painting or a carefully produced print—is one small way we can all make more sustainable choices. Art isn’t simply something to match a room; it’s something to live with, connect with and treasure for years to come.

Whether you’re looking for an original painting, a thoughtful gift or simply a moment of calm, I’m so glad you’re here.
